More googling came across half a solution -- use ccextractor to get a
.srt file containing the subtitles (closed captions) and the video
player should be able to use that when playing the video of the same
name -- fff.mp4 and fff.srt.

Now, my problem is that ccextractor is either a windows executable or
compilable source for us LXers.  I have not (yet, anyway) found a
package for ubuntu or an independent package (ppt?  ppf?  -- something
like that; I don't deal with them enough to remember exactly).

I either need to find a pre-packaged version to run on my MythBuntu
10.04 system or figure out how to compile from source, it seems.
