Hi folks, just joined the list the other day and have been reading the
archives. A little about me.

I cut the chord about a year and a half ago since my cable company had
reported, on request, that I had consumed 11 hours of tv viewing in a
calendar year. With the money savings, I was able to boost my internet
speed to 50/100 down/up and still save $60/month.

So, we cut to over a few weeks ago where I’m planning on getting a nice
antenna installed on my roof so I can double my channels and the idea of
getting a DVR attached to my TV entered my mind.

Looked into TIVO, and while the lowest model is the only one that handles
antenna tv, 40 hours of content seems a bit short. The $15/month for
programming guides I would normally get for free turned me off completely.

As an avid linux user, I finally realized that Ubuntu had a myth tv related
distribution branch and so here I am.

I’d like to have a set top box with myth, a dual receiver, and plugged into
my tv. You may see posts by me asking for advice on different brands and
models. The idea is to keep it as cheap as possible while still being
useful.

Currently, I’m absolutely willing to buy a new receiver that will work with
the box I build.

With that said, I’d like to ask if someone can throw a monetary value to
what I would expect to spend to get the rig going (sans roof antenna).
