You probably want to also record to more than 1 storage group at a time. I would use independent disks.

I don't think you need to record to more than one storage group to get load balancing over several disks.
Actually I am sure you would want to.

As I understand it, if you connect several disks to one storage group then MythTV will do the balancing according to the criteria you choose.
