Trying to refresh the memory banks, but I seem to remember running into a
similar issue with Fedora, although with an older release; I think maybe
F14.  I'm also currently running Fedora 16 and using a HD-PVR without any
issues, so it's not purely a Fedora 16 problem.  I think the problem I ran
into previously may have actually been related to IR blasting and
lirc_zilog module.  Maybe try taking this module out of your equation
temporarily for testing and see if you can get a good recording.
