6 months is unlikely. It depends on how the Earth behaves. The ITU has
put off until 2015 a decision on whether to abandon the leap-seconds
system entirely. The argument for doing so is that it is virtually
impossible to ensure that they won't provoke system failures like - or
worse than - this one. There are counter arguments.
