Is it just mythfrontend that crashes? or the X server? If the former,
can you try and capture some sort of backtrace
(http://www.mythtv.org/docs/mythtv-HOWTO-22.html#ss22.2). If the
latter, it's almost impossible to tell you whether it's a driver bug
or mythtv using the driver 'inappropriately'. (In fact - can you
capture a backtrace for either situation).

The 0.25 vaapi code is tested using the ubuntu-x-swat repository
enabled to get the latest libva and related fixes - it may be worth
trying that to see if it helps.
