My SL6 box has messagebus running and I haven't had problems running 
MythTV on it in standalone mode - just 'mythbackend' and 'mythfrontend' 
in tabs in konsole.  I get strange d-bus messages from the wicd network 
manager on boot but it seems to work eventually.
