No need to hold your breath! Live streaming is in git/master and will be part of the next release.

I poked around the new methods briefly and I pronounce the API to be officially nifty. Simple and flexible, really good stuff.

Currently there is a lack of clients to use the API, either device specific app ones or something common through a web interface. The task isn't conceptually difficult - slicing & dicing lists and handing off streams to generic video controls so I suspect it won't be long before there are several to choose from. All different colours!
