[mythtv-users] Streaming to Android with PS3 Media Server

I have an ASUS Transformer, with Android 3.0. It has a 720P display. Most
of the other TVs in our house are also 720P, so I just convert most
everything to that or less. It also saves a lot of space. Finally, the
Transformer only wants to see MPEG4 and ACC stereo. The trick was finding
ffmpeg parameters to create files that will play on MythTV, WDTV and the
Transformer. MythTV and WDTV can use 5.1 audio, so I make that a secondary
stream. The Transformer comes with a MyNet uPNP/DLNA app that plays direct
from MythTV. The Transformer can also VPN into hour home network and play
any low bandwidth recording.

Some recordings I know I'll only play live or on the big screen with 5.1, so
no conversion needed. Others, the quality is not that important and may
play remotely, so they convert to low bandwidth. Other recordings convert
to other formats.

In summary, don't shy away from converting the recording. Just make sure
it's a format you'll be happy with, no matter what device you plan to play
it on.

My recordings are in .mpg files from DVB-T transmissions. I've been trying
to figure out how to play these on my Samsung Galaxy S II mobile phone over
my home WiFi network without transcoding them to a format specific to the
mobile. I thought the PS3 media Server solution sounded promising as it
transcodes on the fly -

I can see the list of recordings on my mobile but I don't seem to get
anything other than "Unsupported file format" errors when I try to play one.
So I assume I don't have the transcoding set up properly. Has anyone got any
experience of doing this with MythTV recordings to a mobile phone? Or is
there an easier way?
