Sort of.  The cable cards don't use 5C encryption, but instead refuse
to send data to untrusted hosts (basically anything not Windows 7) if
the copy control flags on the broadcast are not set to 0 (copy
freely).

It's usually the case the set of things theoretically recordable by
mythtv using firewire is the same as the set of things recordable with
a cable card as most cable boxes enable 5C encryption under the same
circumstances, but there can be some rare cases where they are
different.
