I'm puzzled as to why you've turned ntpd off. You should run ntpd on *all* your
boxes, that way you will ensure that they all have the exact same time.

I synchronize all the boxes on my LAN (which all run ntpd) to an ntpd server
running on my firewall/router. This single server synchronizes to the outside
world, saving bandwidth, and ensures that every box has the same time.

The other thing I might add is: check that *all* your boxes are using the *same* 
time zone information. Even one which says (e.g.) "GMT" instead of 
"Europe/London" can cause problems.
