I know you can specify a standard resolution of 1080p and override it for
other video resolutions: http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/User_Manual:JudderFree
 But apparently "...you can not force MythTV to output an interlaced signal
through this mechanism."

Seems like a reasonable feature request.  I would love to output raw 1080i
to my tv when watching a 1080i signal... and leave it in 1080p otherwise.
