I think "we" should have a limit of per card:

My card (1) can't do more than 2:

TVRecEvent dvbchannel.cpp:347 (CheckFrequency) 
DVBChan(3:/dev/dvb/adapter0/frontend0): Your frequency setting 
(12483000) is out of range. (min/max:950000/2150000)

That freq. is a transponder that is valid :)
