There is an option to add hard padding to a recording - the boxes are 
down the bottom of the extended options list in the recording rules 
page (and you can set the defaults for new rules in the settings 
somewhere).
This works fine when back-back recordings are on the same mux 
(assuming DVB and multirec) or you have a spare tuner. But if you 
don't have a spare tuner then it will cause a conflict unless one of 
the recordings can be rescheduled.

In theory it would be possible to include overlapping recordings from 
one tuner in the scheduler - but I think that might be one 
complication too far.
