The key difference between the 900 and 1900 is the 1900 has an onboard
hardware MPEG encoder.  Also, it is highly unlikely that any version
of the 900 you can buy today will work under Linux (there have been
multiple revisions of the hardware and the currently sold version
isn't supported).

In other words, the 1900 is really your only option (the MythTV
developers strongly discourage users from using devices without a
hardware MPEG encoder anyway).
