Your approach you recommend is good here, networked HD Home Run, but
if the source is OTA in the USA, there's no content that is encoded in
SD.  You have to go to the digital sub channels to get content.
Transcoding everything is less than desirable.

So OP Alex, you're welcome to try it, but realize if you can't decode
HD, then you're going to have to cpu-intensively transcode everything
before watching it.  For OTA in the USA these days, you need to do HD.
