I experienced similar behavior on a fresh install with Fedora 16. I was
only able to use a few buttons on my remote. I realized that I didn't have
all the lirc configuration files installed. Check .lircrc in /home/mythtv
(or your user), check /etc/lirc/lircd.conf, and check
/etc/modprobe.d/lirc.conf (for the proper lirc module to load). Your paths
may vary, of course.
I keep a copy of the working configurations on another machine for easy
access during upgrades.
