True, but better go the VDPAU way - you get a GT220 or better NVidia card and CPU does not matter anymore, even for 1080p sizes.

Enough CPU to play HD MPEG2 content.  Specifically, any AMD64 or Core2 
should be sufficient, as would higher end P4 and AthlonXP systems.
