There hasn't been a ton of info posted here about that sort of stuff
yet, as currently the only people running mythtv with a cablecard are
those with access to a pre-release HDHR prime, or those running the
dev branch of myth where the ceton development is taking place
(assuming that's even in a usable state yet...not really sure, as I
haven't followed the status).
Some people have made inferences about the state of this based on
their experience with firewire capture. However, my understanding is
that the firewire 5C encryption scheme is separate from the cablecard
copy protection scheme and could possibly be configured differently.
Some other people have posted info they've retrieved out of there
cablecard-based cable box. Others have posted results gathered from
Windows Media Center systems.
The gist of what I've seen so far is that on Comcast, it seems to be
everything except the premium channels (HBO, Cinemax, etc) and the PPV
channels are marked copy-freely. This could possibly vary from market
to market (as I don't think setting copy-freely is necessarily a
corporate policy), however I don't recall yet seeing anyone say these
channels aren't copy-freely.
I've asked WideOpenWest about this info, and I received a response
from the VP of video engineering. He says they currently have
everything but premium/PPV marked copy-freely. He didn't mention
anything about it depending on the local setup, so I take that to mean
it's more of an official policy to set it up that way (at least for
the time being...he suggested it could change some day if future
contracts ever obligate them to do so).
