A lot of the code is actually dynamically adaptive to the hardware it
is running on. SSE optimised code is often used in speed critical
area; especially in FFmpeg

The default mythtv configure will auto-detect the hardware and
generate the appropriate config.

Now, if you believe that someone has more clue setting the compiler
than the author of the code himself. Then sure enough it may have its
advantages...
