I'm trying to do something similar with my Android phone, but Air
Video seems to be Apple only. I've found a couple of other solutions
that are more generic but they only run on Windows.

Have you tried copying one of the recordings to a local file to make
sure that Air Video doesn't have a problem with the mpg files? It's
unlikely but a good check.

How did you mount the fuse filesystem? You may need to adjust the permissions.

Try using stat instead of file.
