My aplay -l and aplay -L for the nvidia card are exactly the same as
yours. On one tv the audio accepted is PCM and comes out on
ALSA:hdmi:CARD=NVidia,DEV=1, you can see that in

[mythtv at myhost ~]$ cat /proc/asound/card1/eld#1.0

monitor_present 1

eld_valid 1

monitor_name TSB-TV

connection_type HDMI

eld_version [0x2] CEA-861D or below

edid_version [0x3] CEA-861-B, C or D

manufacture_id 0x6252

product_id 0x203

port_id 0x20000

support_hdcp 0

support_ai 0

audio_sync_delay 0

speakers [0x0]

sad_count 1

sad0_coding_type [0x1] LPCM

sad0_channels 2

sad0_rates [0xe0] 44100 48000 88200

sad0_bits [0xe0000] 16 20 24

the audio device in the frontend is ALSA:hdmi:CARD=NVidia,DEV=1

The mixer is labelled software

All the other elds show nothing. On my other ion2 system that goes to
dev 7 and it shows under a different eld. That is 7.1 audio to my
marantz receiver.

So you should check if any of your elds show anything, making sure the
tv is on before you boot the linux box. I was able to use either
speakertest or apaly with that device. I did not have to do anything
complicated. This box is running alsa 0.23 on arch linux. The other
mythbuntu with alsa 0.24. I am running the latest trunk in mythtv.

Did you do anything special with your xorg file. I would make a copy
and run xconfig-nvidia and start from there.
