One potential solution (and I know Christopher does not hold out much
hope for it working for him) is to try and exchange the STB for a
different model that also has firewire.  I had an issue where my Pace
box stopped responding, presumably after a software upgrade, and I
replaced it with a Motorola box.  The funny thing is that I was using
the Pace box because the prior Motorola box was no longer working for
me.  I did have to modify and recompile the channel changing script as
mentioned earlier in this thread and in a prior thread I linked to,
but now everything works fine.
