Auto-expire only deletes things while recordings are in progress. So,
if your file system is already full, MythTV can't start a recording, so
it won't expire anything.
Delete a show manually (i.e. change Watch Recordings to show Live TV
recording group and then Deleted recording group) and when you delete a
show from Deleted recording group, it will be removed from the disk.
Then, MythTV should be able to start recordings, so it should be able to
run the expirer. If that doesn't help, you'll need to post complete
logs showing the auto-expire run so we can figure out why it's refusing
to delete anything.
Also, note that if you've enabled slow deletes, MythTV will delete each
individual show slowly, but at a rate faster than your recorders can
record. If other processes are writing to the disk, you could easily
fill it up faster than MythTV is deleting shows.
