Richard,

Read this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simple_Service_Discovery_Protocol

And possibly enable: Zero configuration networking.
in /etc/sysconfig/network add:

NOZEROCONF=No (or completely remove the line),

On your router you may need to enable upnp option.
