Probably not the solution you are looking for, but it will definitely work.

I installed squeezebox server and a squeezebox player on my combined
BE/FE (if you have multiple frontends, you can install the player on
each).  I use an app for the iPhone to control the squeezeplayer.  I
am sure there are apps for android, and if not, you can always use the
web based frontend.
