If you do that, you may also want to purchase a smart power strip so
that when your computer shuts down, all the pheripherals (printers,
external tuners, external HD's, etc) also shut down

This saves a LOT of power, but is annoying because it takes a minute
to boot when you want to watch TV. It also precludes you from running
mythweb, zoneminder, or other "server based" systems that need to be
available 24/7
I eventually switched to a small form factor PC so I could have one
computer running 24/7. The small form factor, small CPU and PS made a
