That is not true at all... I see discussions about issues on older versions
all the time.  I will admit though that there does seem to be a lot of push
to get people with issues to upgrade.  0.24 changed a lot of things, mostly
for the better, and ultimately it is easier to support.

I could be wrong, but I believe it chooses the first appropriate audio track
for your speaker configuration.  So if you have a 5.1 AC3 and a stereo AC3
track and only two speakers, logically it will choose the stereo track.
Unfortunately, in your case the stereo track is the commentary, not a
downmix.  Not sure if there is a way to change that.
