That's because Ethernet is an actual world-wide transmission standard whereas 
what cable companies do world-wide is inside their own walled gardens.

I understand that in the States under analog you could actually just plug a TV 
into the cable, you can't do even that in much of the world. I bet the cableco's 
jumped for joy when digital was mooted, that meant they could insist on 
subscribers renting their set-top boxes.

Perhaps internet TV will be the way to go. First of all, though, we'll have to 
get our ISPs to provide enough capacity to allow everyone to stream HD TV. Oh, 
wait...
