I'm using mythbuntu so my /etc/network/interfaces contains this:
up route add -net 224.0.0.0/4 dev eth0
There is no spoofing required (thank root).

Mplayer was not installed with the default mythbuntu setup. After
installing I was able to pull a stream with it from the command line.

Do you have any idea where the url is (supposed to be) stored in the
database? My current line of thought is the url is not there for myth
to use.
