and the first minute of the next 35 recordings that attempt to start on 
this input, and an additional 20 recordings that should have occurred 
with the affected tuner, but that can't because the tuner isn't working 
properly, leaving conflicts on the schedule--not to mention the fact 
that the high-priority recordings that were attempted on the broken 
input can't be switched to a different input because the other inputs 
are busy with lower-priority recordings that run contiguously with the 
important recording, so you end up recording the wrong shows and ...

You can't just look at the "now"/the current recording.  MythTV is a 
/much/ more complicated system.

It's /not/ a simple problem to solve.  IMHO, expecting drivers to tell 
us when the driver or hardware encounters an error is not a cop out.
