When using vdpau this isn't necessary as it's automatically enabled.

Unfortunately, I think the problem is rather deep in 0.24 and later ;
with the new threading architecture, there are cases where the audio
framework isn't fed audio data fast enough and it starves the audio
card leading to buffer underruns.

This is usually happening at the start of playback, while the player
is buffering video ; and then during playback if there is anything
hogging the CPU for a short time.
