I was rooting through some miscellaneous computer parts when I
happened upon a different Firewire card. The new card had an NEC
chipset. I popped it in, did some minimal configuration, and Bob's
your uncle--it worked perfectly.

I will update the relevant wiki pages with information about my configuration.
