[mythtv-users] No Display

Thanks Andre,I never made any changes to xorg.conf.  I don't understand how a resolution or display issue could be the problem when the video switches on immediately with the addition of audio in any mode.  I can open a mp3 on the desktop, and the display will work until that mp3 ends.

Well, the idea that it is a TV-side problem seems to make the most sense.  This myth box was setup to a different TV (through HDMI) with no problem, and the new TV is the only thing different.  A little bit of experimentation demonstrates video clicking on anytime audio accompanies the picture.

Did you make any customisations to your video settings (xorg.conf) for the old tv? If so it's possible the new tv has slightly different capabilities and mythtv is switching to a mode that the tv does not support.

Thanks Ian.  My questions will now take a different tack to a different audience.

Hello,

You've gone further than I have in debugging - I
have just
converted my AV/Stereo setup to HDMI too, but the HDMI
Amp that I bought last year won't forward the picture to
the
set, so I've just skipped that until my patience returns
;-)

Is it possible that the TV/Display is only
configured to show
a picture when it has audio?  I suspect this is/was
the
problem with my Amp (I only just bought and configured an
nVidia GT220 (216) so that I have both picture and audio
in the same cable - two days ago).

My old 4:3 set used to display a blue screen when it

detected no signal - maybe your TV is doing a modern
equivalent ... Try exploring the TV's config options ..

Actually one other thought .. my set had 4 x HDMI
inputs,
and one was specifically flagged as a PC HDMI interface ..
maybe you've just seen why that's important?  I
haven't
tried one of the other HDMI ports ...

Good luck,

Hi guys,
I am in full crisis mode!

I just bought a new television and spent about 2
hours
mounting it to the wall.  It is an LG 37inch LED LCD
TV with
1080p and 120 Hz refresh capable.

I finally hooked it up to my mythtv box (which is
running
0.24 in a mythbuntu package).  I got a message from
the TV
saying "No Signal".  I rebooted mythtv and rechecked
the
connections.  I saw the splash screen displayed, and
then
the "No Signal" message again.

I opened the mythtv box in VNC just to confirm it was
on.
It was.  I tried "Play music" and lo and behold, I
had
sound and picture.  It worked like normal.  But
when I
exited back to the mythtv menu, I got the "No Signal"
message.

VLC (which is what I am using to watch videos) gives
me a
signal which I lose when I exit VLC.  I can watch live
TV
and recorded programs with the internal player, but I
cannot
see the desktop or the mythtv.

Things I have tried:
Changing the resolution.
Changing the configuration in the NVIDIA panel
(although
I'm not sure I know EXACTLY what I was doing in there).
Changing my theme.
Opening Mythtfrontend while a VLC window is playing
(this
is the closest to success I have come... I can see the
desktop and enter mythtv, but once that VLC window closes,
I
get the "No Signal"message.

Thank you for taking a look at this and for any
advice.
