I'd also suggest giving Chris' solution a try, I've never delt with ACLs

On my suggestion, most likely the group permissions for the directory 
doesn't have write permissions:

chmod g+rw mythdir -R

The above line says, modify the group permissions to add read and write 
along with all sub directories.
