The "hardware snobs" seem to continually fail to get their argument
across. The problem isn't that Atoms can't be used for MythTV. Any
processor that supports the i386 instruction set should be capable of
running MythTV (I'm not sure what is required in terms of ARMs). The
argument is that Atoms and ARMs cannot be _recommended_ for use with MythTV.

There are very real limitations on such hardware in terms of performance
and expansion, that makes them unsuitable for many, if not most, MythTV
setups. To an inexperienced user, they would be a bad recommendation
for hardware to purchase. To an experienced user, who knows what they
want out of MythTV, and knows that such hardware is sufficient for their
wants, such hardware is fine. However, an experienced user such as that
wouldn't need hardware recommendations, as they already know enough to
do the research and make a decision on their own.
