[mythtv-users] backend won't connect using localhost, frontend won't connect using actual IP

[Mepis Rocks]

i downloaded, compiled, and installed the latest version of mepis from the
git repository.

compilation, install went flawless.  i ran mythtv-setup and configured it
to use localhost for the local backend.

the problem?  when i start the backend i get this error repeated over, and
over again

if i change the local master backend IP to the actual 192.168.1.xxx address
the backend will connect, but the frontend will not

i've confirmed that mysql is able to connect to localhost, 127.0.0.1, and
the 192.168.1.xxx address.

good news is, at least the backend isn't segfaulting anymore.
