Correct:  under Linux you cannot load firmware into the device.  It's
burned into the flash on the device and it can only be upgraded
through Windows.

So the upside is you never need to worry about finding the firmware
under Linux (or redistribution issues), the downside is that if you
actually need to upgrade it then you need a Windows box.
