I reported the same problem, together with a patch here:
http://code.mythtv.org/trac/ticket/9823
Unfortunately it seems that it was rejected and the problem ignored.
Since then I have developed a workaround for fixes/0.24 and master that
significantly reduces the stutters during program switching. You
download the patches from here:
http://www.softsystem.co.uk/download/mythtv/mythpatches-0.24.tar.bz2
The patch for current fixes/0.24 is:
mythpatches-0.24/mythtv-0.24/0038-mythplayer-Avoid-stutters-between-programs-and-when-.patch
and for git master is:
mythpatches-0.24/mythtv-master/0025-mythplayer-Avoid-stutters-between-programs-and-when-.patch
I have been using this patch on all my frontend systems since mid May
with no problems. I have a mixture of combined fe/be and remote fe
systems over 100 Mb and 20 Mb powerline networks and all work well now.
I believe that the remaining issues are in the ringbuffer and related to
the change of filename when a program changes.
