Apologies - on autopilot and was talking nonsense. /etc/lircd.conf
will usually hold the IR signal -> button mappings for your remote(s).
lircd config (device, driver, etc) is stored elsewhere...

If you are using a Debian-based distro (e.g. MythBuntu) check in

/etc/lirc/hardware.conf

If you are using Fedora, the hardware config is specified in

/etc/sysconfig/lirc
