in theory both should. I've done 5.1 PCM via HDMI with mplayer (or at
least it led me to believe it was sent via PCM to my receiver), MythTV
0.24 with the new audio system supposedly should support the higher
frequency/bitrate formats as well, 0.23 currently does not.
