Unfortunately I don't think I can offer too much that's helpful,
except to say that this feature did work ... I used to use it every
time I added a new scheduled recording (to verify there weren't any
conflicts or readjustments I didn't want).

I haven't been able to use it in quite a while, though, because the
last handful of themes I tried didn't have all the required elements
defined or something .... but usually I got different results than you
describe. I forget the exact details, but it told me that the theme
was missing elements in one case, and in another case the frontend
hung.

But I know that it did work at some point in the past... I still kind
of miss it sometimes.
