Lots of folks here seem to like GMail. Thunderbird seems popular as well.

I use KMail, which can be run under Windows.

Whatever you do, stay away from Outlook, and its associated Expunge server.

I prefer lists to forums, I check mail anyway, forums add an additional step and complicate things needlessly.
