Unless I have misread something I'm not totally sure whether you want to
build one new machine as a combined backend and frontend.

If you do, then the ION/Atom processor is not powerful enough to do
everything. You will also struggle to make a totally silent backend- the
processing and power requirements are too high- best to locate your backend
somewhere out of the way and not have to worry about the noise from the
cooling! I have a Zotac IONITX board as a frontend and it works brilliantly.

You have also not mentioned sound and whether you will be happy with the
basic stereo sound from your frontend audio output or whether you need a
digital audio output to connect to your TV or sound system.
