Don't know if it affects you (I have numerous but different problems
with lirc at the moment) but lirc 0.8.6 seems to be problematic with
recent Kernels. I know that mythbuntu 10.10 uses that version. Lirc
0.8.7 is supposed to be fixed on that front but has not turned up in
the repos yet. If you are comfortable with compiling... try that
version.

Other than that, sorry, haven't even fixed my Lirc yet.
