You can do this with a custom/power recording rule. Re-recording is as
easy as using (or inverting, or making so it doesn't care which came
first--SDTV or HDTV recording) the example clause added for 0.24 in
http://svn.mythtv.org/trac/changeset/25056 (note that it will work in
0.23-fixes or earlier, too). Just put the "rule.subtitle" stuff in the
additional tables field and the "rule.description" stuff in the SQL
field of the custom rule editor (and, as mentioned in the rule title,
you'll need to disable duplicate matching).
If you want to allow recording both simultaneously, you'll have to do a
bit more work to make sure you don't record 4 or 5 copies in SDTV
simultaneously from different channels or whatever. However, playing
around with that rule should get you started down the road to finding
the right SQL. (And when you do, please post it here.) Note, also,
that there are quite a few people here and on #mythtv-users on IRC who
know their SQL and people who know MythTV's schema well enough to help
out--so if you have questions as you're making your SQL, please ask. If
you get a nice approach for doing it, I'll add it as an example clause
to MythTV proper.
The biggest challenge is editing the rule due to the lack of a
multi-line text widget in mythui. Therefore, I recommend creating the
rule (with some super simple SQL) using the frontend, then use MythWeb
to edit the SQL.
