Do you not want to recombine the storage of both systems eventually?

If you do you just need to point your archive backend at you main backend
database and import some recording records from your archive backend into
you main backend database.

Then configure your tuner on you archive backend and setup the storage
groups. Then youll have one system with all tuners able to be used for
scheduling and all recordings available on all frontends.

There is a script /plugin (mytharchive i think) that will allow you to
archive recording files and the associated meta data and import it into a
different backend. The metadata export and import would allow you to move
these database records to your centralised database from your archive
backend database.
