I didn't do anything specific ... just what the wiki at your git-repo
told me to do ( https://github.com/MarcT/mt-mythtv/wiki )

So I assume it was "trunk", yes.

Worked fine for me building on my VM.
Not sure what happened with your build but it seems unrelated to my ebuilds.
