If you wish to transcode content, you really should not be using the 
internal transcoder.  1GB/hr is really not enough for HD content in 
general, and is woefully inadequate if you're trying to use the MPEG4 
ASP encoder in mythtranscode.  If you care about space, or are going for 
external device support, something that does H.264 is a better option 
either way.
