[mythtv-users] pulseaudio issues with 0.24

I have 0.24 configured on my desktop machine (which uses pulseaudio) so
I selected "PulseAudio:default" as my Audio output device. Typically
when I start mythfrontend in this configuration and play back a
recording, it cranks the pulseaudio master volume up to max, which it
should not be doing of course. mplayer had this problem when it first
started using pulseaudio in Ubuntu:

The changelog for the fixed release of mplayer said:

mplayer (2:1.0~rc3+svn20090426-1ubuntu11) lucid; urgency=low

  * Add 50_fix_initial_volume_setting_pulse_output.patch to resolve the
stream volume being set to max upon each mplayer invocation
    (LP: #482408)

Maybe that patch will be helpful in discovering what mistake mythtv has
made.

Also, some number of times starting a recording playback I get "white
noise" rather than the audio track.

On yet on another occasion I got this:

and there was no audio. At the same time, I was able to use other sound
applications (i.e. rhythmbox) with pulseaudio just fine. The above
would continue to happen until I exit mythfrontend and restart it, after
which audio with pulseaudio worked again.

Cheers,
b.
